The New York Mets added Robert Gsellman to the rotation recently, and given their 2020 and 2019 stats, here’s why the Mets could see this move backfire on them.
He has got the stuff, and why he wasn’t named the starter over Robert Gsellman is indeed appalling. It may seem like the Mets know they need quality arms in the bullpen, which was horrific last year, but let’s take a look at Lugo so far this season.
In 9 games, Lugo is 1-2 with 3 saves and a 2.61 ERA. In 2019, he sported a 2.70 ERA.
Robert Gsellman:
I really don’t see the hype surrounding Gsellman. He’s been disappointing to say the least. In 2 games pitched, he has a 9.00 ERA. In 2019, his ERA stood tall at 4.66.
Take your guesses which one I’d chose to put as a starter. I’d have went with Lugo.
To sum this up, Gsellman isn’t deserving of a rotation spot. This is poor judgement and quick unrational thinking on the Mets’ part. It will only hurt the team in the long run.
