According to Jacob Resnick the Mets are calling up Wilfredo Tovar to replace Kevin Pillar on the roster. Catcher Deivy Grullón is DFA’d to make room on the 40 man roster.

This will be the third stint with the Mets big league club for Tovar as he played briefly for the 2013 and 2014 Mets. Over 40 MLB games, the shortstop has hit .188 with a .478 OPS.

Tovar has played a very limited time at second, third, left and first since 2018, so he is at least capable of playing numerous positions. If needed the Mets can also move Peraza or Villar to the outfield, as they both have some experience in the outfield.

Catcher Deivy Grullón, who the Mets claimed off waivers in the off-season, is the unfortunate victim off all the injuries as a 40 man roster move needed to be made, with the Mets cleary not carrying 4 catchers on the bench.
