The Mets have announced that Harol Gonzalez will pitch the opener of the Spring Training Schedule. The Mets will face the Marlins on March first. A game that won’t be televised.

The 25 year old Gonzalez has pitched 6 seasons with the Mets organization. Over his minor league career he has been solid owning a 3.60 ERA over 607 innings pitched. Over that span he hasn’t been a strikeout guy, so he relies on good defense behind him. However, he does limit hits and is coming off a great 2019.

In 2019 Gonzalez pitched to a combined 3.01 ERA over 137.2 innings between AA and AAA. In Syracuse he was very good with a 2.68 ERA in 40.1 innings.

On Tuesday we can watch the game on SNY, with Yordan Yamamoto taking on the Astros. The spin rate king is looking to make a big impression after the Mets traded for the 24 year old righty.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
