After falling behind early in the bottom half of the first inning in which Zack Wheeler gave up two runs, the Mets right hander didn’t give up anymore runs in the remainder of his outing. Wheeler even helped his own cause as he drove in a run on a force out.

A day after Jacob deGrom pitched another lights out performance, Zack Wheeler tossed seven innings while giving up two runs, one of them earned on seven hits and two walks while striking out six. This start should surely help Wheeler’s case come the off-season if he should opt to hit free agency.

After losing to the Reds 3-2, Wheeler remains 11-8, however now with an ERA of 3.99 through 30 starts on the 2019 campaign.

The Mets are now four games out of the second Wild Card spot with eight games to play.
