In a game between the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals, the Royals took an early lead in the first inning.

Jeff McNeil of the Mets started off with a single, followed by a passed ball by catcher Salvador Perez that allowed McNeil to advance to second base.

Francisco Alvarez then walked, but the Mets couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity as Francisco Lindor struck out swinging.

Pete Alonso lined out to third baseman Maikel Garcia, and Mark Vientos flew out to right fielder Drew Waters, resulting in three quick outs for the Mets.

In the bottom of the first, the Royals continued their momentum with a single by Maikel Garcia. Bobby Witt Jr. followed with another single, driving in Garcia for the first run of the game.

MJ Melendez then grounded into a force out, but a wild pitch by pitcher Kodai Senga allowed him to advance to second base.

Salvador Perez struck out swinging, but Michael Massey hit a double, bringing in Garcia and Melendez. The Royals took a 2-0 lead.

The second inning saw no runs from either team, with the Mets going down in order and the Royals grounding into a double play.

In the third, the Mets had a chance to score with two singles by Danny Mendick and Jeff McNeil, but both were left stranded as Francisco Alvarez and Francisco Lindor both flew out.

The Royals also failed to score in the bottom of the third.

The fourth inning saw the Mets struggling to get anything going, with three consecutive outs. The Royals added another run with a single by Kyle Isbel and a groundout by Maikel Garcia.

In the top of the fifth, the Mets had a chance to score with two singles by Danny Mendick and Jeff McNeil, but Francisco Alvarez struck out swinging to end the inning.

Both teams failed to score in the sixth and seventh innings. In the bottom of the eighth, the Royals extended their lead with a solo home run by Drew Waters.

The Mets couldn’t respond in the top of the ninth, with three consecutive groundouts ending the game.

Overall, it was a disappointing game for the Mets as they were unable to generate any significant offense. The Royals took advantage of their opportunities and secured a 4-0 victory.
