To complete a trade made by the two clubs in November, the Mets will be sending center field prospect Jake Magnum to Miami. While the Mets will receive immediate help with Elieser Hernandez and Jeff Brigham, I expect that the Marlins will be putting the 26 year old to use this season, considering his advanced age for the Minors.
Magnum was drafted by the Mets during the June Amateur Draft in 2018. He’s hit at practically every level, except for a small nine game stint for Brooklyn in 2021. He still managed to hit .285 that season between Brooklyn and Binghamton, so that small sample size in Brooklyn looked more to be fluke.
While some were shocked that the outfielder was not protected from the Rule 5 Draft, he ended up not being selected. Miami benefits by not drafting Magnum, and not being forced to place him on the team’s 40 man roster.
