Jacob deGrom is no stranger to chasing history, even mid game in 40 degree weather. Today, the two-time Cy Young award winner has struck out nine straight batters. Just one strike out short of the Major League record.

The record of course is held by Tom Seaver, in which he struck out 10 straight Padres at Shea Stadium. What makes it extra special is that it was the last ten batters of the game.

deGrom has made it clear recently in an interview with Jeff Passan, that he intends to not only pitch till he’s 40, but also to be enshrined in the inner-circle of the Hall of Fame.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
