According to Mark Feinsand, the Mets and Angels are rumored to be the front runners for free agent starter Trevor Bauer. After the Mets missed out on Springer, I doubt the addition of Bauer is going to happen.

To me, the Angels are the more logical fit. They need pitching and they need an ace. Bauer is coming off of a great year, winning the NL CY Young. Bauer pitched to a 1.73ERA over 11 starts, followed it up by 7.2 scoreless in the Wild Card round against the Braves. He had a minuscule 0.79 WHIP and a crazy 12.3 strikeouts per nine.

Baseball Savant

If you are worried about Bauer being great in just a 11 game span, he has been very solid over the last three seasons. Over 461.1 innings he pitched to a 3.18 ERA, 144 ERA+ and a 1.11 WHIP and 11.2 K/9. Those are all solid numbers behind a guy like deGrom.

Bauer also gets you another starter for years to come. With Syndergaard, Stroman and Matz gone after 2021, the Mets don’t have pitchers to step right up. If the Mets get Bauer, they have deGrom, Carrasco, Bauer, Peterson and Lucchesi on the payroll for next season.

With all that being said, I see the Angels getting the CY Young award winner. Bauer is reportedly looking for 5/185 million dollars, 35 mil AAV. Like I mentioned before, I have a hard time believing the Mets will give it to Bauer.
