While the New York Mets took the first game of the series against the Philadelphia Phillies, it wasn’t done in a pretty fashion, at all. Edwin Diaz would eventually come into the game in the 9th inning and blow another save before Pete Alonso would drive in the Mets winning run in the bottom half of the inning.

In his six starts wearing a Mets uniform, Marcus Stroman was able to put up his first quality start his last last time taking the hill. Fortunately for Stroman, it was against this same Philadelphia Phillies ball club, so hopefully at the very least, momentum will be on his side. The Long Island native owns a 7-12 record alongside a 3.28 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP while striking out 130 batters in 156.1 innings.

Drew Smyly has had a rough year and a change of uniforms hasn’t helped the veteran left hander. In his last 30.1 innings pitched, Smyly has given up 10 home runs and owns a 6.23 ERA during that six-start stretch. Overall, Smyly is 3-6 with a 6.65 ERA, a 1.66 WHIP and has struck out 98 batters in 94.2 innings pitched.

With 45 long balls, Pete Alonso leads the National League in home runs and is currently tied with Mike Trout throughout the entire Major League circuit. In his last seven games, Alonso has been batting .354/.412/.645 with three out of his eleven hits landing on the other side of the fence.

Tonight’s matchup will be held at Citi Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:10 PM EST and will be televised on SNY as well as nationally on FS1.
