Sunday Afternoon Matchup: Pirates vs Mets

After Steven Matz pitched an absolute gem with a complete game shutout that would go on and secure another series victory, four out of their last five, the Pirates and the Mets will meet up early at 1:10 PM to finish things up.

Pittsburgh will be sending right hander Chris Archer to the bump and the once elite-like pitcher has definitely struggled this year while giving up a league leading 24 home runs. Archer has a 3-7 record with a 5.40 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP to go with 112 strikeouts in 96.2 innings.

Jason Vargas could be taking the mound at Citi Field in a Mets uniform for the last time as he tried to help the Mets secure the sweep over the Pirates on Sunday afternoon. Vargas owns a 5-5 record with a 3.96 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP alongside 76 strikeouts in 88.2 innings pitched.

J.D Davis is coming off a big two-hit game which included a clutch 2-run home run to put the nail in the coffin. The home run was his 10th of the season as well picking up his 12th double in his limited amount of playing time.

Davis has been hitting a scorching hot .381/.435/.619 in his last 42 at-bats and 15 games.
