The Mets beat the Marlins 9-3 yesterday behind some powerfully offense. The power started in the first when Mark Canha and Francisco Lindor went back-to-back. It ended with a bomb by top prospect Francisco Alvarez in the eight.
Lindor had a solid game going 2 for 3 with that homerun and double. The star shortstop drove in two in the win.
Arguably the biggest hit came of the bat from J.D. Davis. Davis cleared the bases with a three run double, an at bat after he got hit in the knee by a pitch. Eduardo Escobar also had a solid game going 3 for 3 with a RBI.
Arguably the most exciting moment was Francisco Alvarez crushing a homerun off the scoreboard in left field. It showed the amazing pop Francisco Alvarez has. He is going to be exciting.
With the Mets expecting a rainy evening, they went with relief pitchers and had Bassitt and Carrasco work in the minor league Instrasquad game earlier on the day. The bullpen game went well as Diaz, Castro, Orze, Shreve, Holderman, Lugo and Mitchell all had a scoreless frame. Sean Reid-Foley walked 3, allowing just one run and Josh Walker allowed 2 (1 earned) in his inning.
Castro did got some help by some sparkling defense behind him. Jeff McNeil made a terrific play for and out and Brandon Nimmo followed with a nice catch in CF.
Bassitt and Carrasco got their work in on the minor league site. Bassitt went 5 innings allowing just one hit with 5 strikeouts. Carlos Carrasco however, struggled in his outing allowing 5 runs on 6 hits over 3.1 innings. He allowed homeruns to Jose Peroza and Thomas Nido. Drew Smith also pitched, he went a perfect inning.
Today the Mets face the Astros at 6.10pm with Tylor Megill making the start. The Game is not televised.
