Mets Beat Nats in Spring Training Opener

The Mets beat the Nationals 6-2 after a 4 run, 3 homer first gave the Mets a 4-0 lead against Josiah Gray. Luis Guillorme, Dom Smith and Nick Plummer all went the opposite way for a homer.

Smith and Guillorme drove in a run later in the game to get the Mets total to 6 runs on the day. Guillorme went 3 for 4 with his homerun and 2 singles with 2 runs batted in.

Dom Smith kept his strong start going with a 2 for 3 day with a homerun and triple. Early on Dom has been the 2020 Dom we got to love, so hopefully that continues.

On the pitching side, the Mets got a great outing from 27 year old Josh Walker. Walker was impressive in the minors last year and he didn’t disappoint today. Walker went 3 scoreless innings allowing just one hit and 2 walks, with 2 strikeouts. On the only hit he allowed, the Mets made a terrific relay play to get the out at third. Mangum>Guillorme>JD.

Alex Claudio, Rob Zastryzny, Eric Orze and Stephen Nogosek all threw scoreless frames in their outings. Holderman allowed an unearned run and Trey Cobb allowed the only Mets earned run.
