Mets Claim Antonio Santos

The Mets are making some depth moves today. After signing Nick Plummer, the Mets followed it up with claiming Antonio Santos. The 40 man roster is now up to 39.

Antonio Santos pitched in 7 games with the Rockies in 2021, allowing 6 earned over 11.1 innings of work. Over that span Santos struck out 10 and walked 5.

The 25 year old struggled with AAA Alburquerque in 2021, pitching to a 7.94 ERA over 45.1 innings. It was the first year he was primarily a reliever after being a starter for his first 5 seasons. Santos owns a 4.83 Minor League ERA.

Santos was a teammate of Ronny Mauricio during the Dominican Winter Leagues, pitching to a 1.80 ERA in 5 innings for the Tigres del Licey.

The Mets need depth and this is another depth move. Maybe the Mets analytical department saw some potential in Santos, to take a shot with him.

Yup. Mets have increased their analytics department, so maybe they saw something in him. If not, its an easy DFA when needed
