I imagine that we’re going to hear that this is something that we shouldn’t be concerned with and wow, do I hope they’re right. After three innings against the Cubs, deGrom fanned eight of nine while lowering his ERA to 0.54 to lead all of Major League Baseball.

Watching him, you’d probably think that the Mets might actually be on route for their second no-hitter in franchise history, but then just like that the right-hander went down towards the tunnel and clubhouse with the head trainer.

During the game, word went out the deGrom removed himself due to shoulder soreness. Is it a reason to be concerned? I’d have to say so, especially with the way injuries have been circulating throughout the league, not just the Mets.

After a lead-off walk by McKinney in the second inning, Kevin Pillar followed by splitting the gap in right field with an RBI double. Pillar now has six doubles on the year and is batting .292/.320/.792 in his last seven games.

deGrom himself of course would follow with another a hit, his 11th of the year, for an RBI single. The probable MVP candidate has plated more runs than he’s given up on the mound, simply an amazing feat.

In the bottom half of the third, Dom Smith cranked his sixth home run of the season, giving the Mets the 3-0 lead.

Sean Reid-Foley has been excellent all season long and while he had a bit of a hiccup on Wednesday night, it’s best to do it when you’re up buy three runs. On Wednesday however, the righty gave up a solo-shot to Cubs’ slugger Anthony Rizzo.

He would pitch two innings while giving up the one run as well as walking two. Foley would also pick up the decision in this contest with his second win of the season.

Kevin Pillar would later crush a home run in the fifth inning, his fifth of the year, giving the Mets the 6-1 lead. Pillar raised his average to .250 after finishing the game going 2-4 with two RBI’s.

Aaron Loup continues to look like an amazing acquisition, making his 23rd appearance of the season and posting a 1.93 ERA in 18.2 innings pitched.

Miguel Castro got himself back on track with a scoreless inning, now possessing an ERA of 3.08 while Trevor May was able to do the same. May has had a pretty lousy month of June, however after tonight, the former Twins reliever owns a 4.37 ERA.

Edwin Diaz closed out the game, picking up his 14th save of the year. This comes after Drew Smith gave up two runs on a line drive home run in the ninth before making the exit after 0.2 innings.

The Mets now look to make it a four-game sweep tomorrow on the series finale with a matchup making up of Marcus Stroman against Kyle Hendricks.
