MetsJunkies Recap: McCann comes up Huge in Win

The Mets had a huge first inning as Jonathan Villar and Francisco Lindor set the table for catcher James McCann. McCann, who’s set to earn $40M on his current four year contract, blasted a three-run shot off of potential HoF’er Madison Bumgarner.

The Mets were able to tack on another run in the first when Brandon Drury grounded into a double play.

David Patterson gave the Diamondbacks all back and then some as he gave up a two-run shot to Ketel Marte. The Diamondbacks centerfielder is having a great season as he’s .352 on the campaign.

With the bases loaded just minutes later, Ildemaro Vargas would single up the middle to tie the game at four a piece. Not only would that chase Peterson out of the game, but Diamondbacks pitcher Madison Bumgarner would follow up and drive in a run with a single of his own.

James McCann began to get greedy with the RBI’s as he drove in Jonathan Villar for his fourth RBI on the afternoon.

Mets infielder Brandon Drury would get a second chance to obtain the RBI and came through with a hard hit single to give the Mets the 6-5 lead.

The Mets would end up winning the game as well as the series. Today’s win had huge contributions from James McCann, going 3-5 with a home run and four RBI’s. Francisco Lindor upped his batting average to .209 as the newly acquired shortstop went also went 3-5.

Miguel Castro pitched two scoreless innings to get the win, his second of the season. Edwin Diaz bounced back and picked up his 10th save after a rough game on Tuesday.

The Mets are now currently 27-21 and will be taking on the Padres in San Diego for a four-game set starting Thursday.
