MetsJunkies Recap: Mets fall to the Fish in the ninth

Saturday’s game didn’t feature much offense from either time, as a matter of fact, we didn’t see the first run of the game until the bottom of the seventh inning. However, when the bats are silent, we’re at least in the midst of a good pitching matchup.

Joey Lucchesi hit the hill and tossed four scoreless, one- hit innings in just an amazing 43 pitches. While some may question the decision of manager Luis Rojas, Lucchesi himself has acknowledged that he needs to be more consistent in his outings.

My guy Sean Reid-Foley also took the mound and while he gave up a run, he’s still pitching at a high level of intensity. The right-hander whom was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays in the off-season now has an ERA of 1.54 for the Mets.

Offensively, there’s not really much to say for the Mets here. Dom Smith went 1-4 on the afternoon, however his one hit was a big one as it not only put the Mets on the board, it tied the game in the eighth.

Unfortunately in the bottom part of the ninth inning, Drew Smith would give up two hits. One of these hits being the big blow via a walk-off two-run home run by Marlins outfielder Garrett Cooper.

The Mets (21-18) and Marlins (21-24) will meet again tomorrow afternoon in the rubber-match between the two NL East competitors.
