MetsJunkies Game Recap: Mets Lost Rubber Game, After Peterson Bad Start

The Mets (1-2) lost the Rubber game of their first series to the Phillies (5-1). Peterson got off to a terrible start, which the Mets couldn’t rebound from. The Phillies beat the Mets 8-2.

Pitching:

David Peterson got the start and got clobbered in the first. Hoskins hit a solo shot and Bohm connected for a 3 run shot later in the frame. He tried to eat some innings, but ran into trouble in the 5th. Overall Peterson allowed 6 runs on 7 hits over 4+ innings.

Barnes came in to try and bail Peterson out, but got greeted rudely by JT Realmuto. Barnes first pitch was hit for a three run homerun.

Betances walked one in a hitless frame. The walk did came around to score in his lone inning.

The only pitchers that kept the Phillies off the board was Joey Lucchesi, who pitched 2 scoreless, striking out 3 batters.

Offense:

The Mets got across just 2 runs after going 1 for 12 with RISP. The Mets left a total of 25 runners on base, with Conforto leaving 9 of them. Though day for the Mets who blew plenty of changes to make it a ballgame.

Nimmo and Guillorme both collected 2 hits and Jonathan Villar went 3 for 5, as he was the main contribution offensively for the Mets.

This was a tough game as the Mets blew all their opportunities to get back in the game. From the start the Mets fell behind and couldn’t do a lot.

Taijuan Walker will make his Mets debut tomorrow in the home opener against the Marlins. Marlins will likely send Sixto Sanchez to the hill. Game will start at 1.10 EST at Citi Field.
