Wednesday’s Pitching Preview

Carlos Martinez of the St. Louis Cardinals will take the hill as they host Pete Alonso and the New York Mets in this exhibition matchup. At 7-7 so far this Spring, the Cardinals look to go over .500, however they’ll need to do so with a struggling Martinez.

Making his fifth appearance on Wednesday, he enters the game with a an 0-2 record. In 11.2 innings pitched, the former top prospect has seven strikeouts while pitching to a 10.03 ERA and a 2.06 WHIP.

The Mets on the other hand have gotten great pitching out of their starters, and you can add Taijuan Walker that list. Making his third appearance, Walker owns a 3.00 ERA however it’s just in three innings pitched, so a bad outing can change things.

He’s struck out five total batters and has allowed one base-runner per inning with his 1.00 WHIP.

The game will not be televised locally on SNY however will be aired nationwide on MLB Network. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM EST.
