MetsJunkies Predictions: Jacob deGrom

It’s our ace’s turn. The best in the game. The two time CY Young Award winner, who will try to get a third. What will deGrom have in store for us in 2021?

Michael: There’s no question Jacob DeGrom is the best pitcher in baseball. He has won the Cy Young award two out of the last three years. I think 2020 was a bit of a down year for him, primarily because he has been a second half pitcher the last few years. If DeGrom continued on the typical rate that we were used to seeing from him last season, he would have had one of the best years of his career. His first half last year was almost as good as it was in 2019, the year he won his first Cy Young. DeGrom also seems to get better by the year. He is throwing as hard as ever, and will have plenty of depth and run support to possibly keep him from needing to go eight innings every start. This will save his arm, and in turn allow him to throw together another incredible season.

Gem: deGrom is an elite pitcher, there’s nothing to question. I love when deGrom doesn’t have everything working for him on the mound. Why? Well, these are the instances where we see how brilliant of a pitcher and baseball player he truly is. And even when he is struggling, his wind up and delivery to the plate is as smooth as silk.

218 IP, 2.84 ERA, 288 K’s, 64 BB’s, 1.04 WHIP.

Del: deGrom has been the greatest pitcher in baseball over the last few year. While he wasn’t able to get a third straight CY Young, he still finished among the top and with an improved defensive, he should have no problem cracking into another CY Young award consideration.

Corne: deGrom will be great again. There is no doubt in my mind. He keeps throwing harder and has contained his control doing so. There is no pitcher like deGrom in the game, so only fitting to believe he will be deBest again. Let’s get this ace another CY Young and back in the playoffs were he belongs. If Jake gets his third CY, a spot in the Hall of Fame, should be a certainty.
