Rating Every New York Mets Uniform

The New York Mets have one of the more unique uniforms in Major League Baseball. The orange and blue separates the Mets from the rest of the league. Today, we will take a look at, and rating, every Mets uniform in franchise history.

How The Rating Will Work

The rating of the uniforms will be on a 1-100 scale. These are all based on my opinion, so feel free to leave your own opinions. I will be showing the uniform, giving a very brief reaction for some, and my score out of 100. Let’s get started. These are all regular season uniforms.

Current

Home Uniform (2012-present)

CLEVELAND, OHIO – JULY 08: Pete Alonso of the New York Mets reacts during the T-Mobile Home Run Derby at Progressive Field on July 08, 2019 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)

It’s the Mets home uniform for a reason. Very simple, yet classic. 83

Road Uniform (2012-present)

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – MAY 7: Bartolo Colon #40 of the New York Mets, center, is congratulated by David Wright #5 as Kevin Plawecki #26 looks on after Colon hit a two-run home run for the first of his career during the second inning of a baseball game against the San Diego Padres at PETCO Park on May 7, 2016 in San Diego, California. Very simple uniform, but still smooth. 72

Home Alternate Uniform (2013-present)

One of my personal favorite uniforms the Mets have had. 93

Road Alternate Uniform (2013-present)

Always loved this uniform, specifically the silver on the logo. Really changes things up. 92

Home Uniforms

1962-1978

NEW YORK – CIRCA 1974: John Milner #28 of the New York Mets bats against the Chicago Cubs during a Major League Baseball game circa 1974 at Shea Stadium in the Queens borough of New York City. Milner played for the Mets from 1971-77. (Photo by Focus on Sport/Getty Images)

Very similar to the current home. 80

Not the biggest fan of the pullover. 41

1983-1990

NEW YORK , NY – OCTOBER 27: Gary Carter #8 and Wally Backman #6 of New York Mets celebrate after winning the 1986 Major League Baseball World Series between the New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox during game seven on October 27, 1986 at Shea Stadium in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. Very similar to the previous one. 92

Seems like the Mets and Expos had a child. 65

1995-2000

I am seeing a trend. The Mets have the OG uniform, then veer off to more complex uniforms. Then they decide to go back to the original. I am a fan of this one because it was the right time to go back to the basics. 88

2001-2009

NEW YORK – OCTOBER 19: Endy Chavez #10 of the New York Mets catches a ball hit in the sixth inning hit by Scott Rolen #27 of the St. Louis Cardinals during game seven of the NLCS at Shea Stadium on October 19, 2006 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images)

Subtle difference between this one and the previous. 89

2010-2011

Was a fan of this sleek look. 83

Classic road uniform. 70

1975

CIRCA 1970’s: Pitcher Tom Seaver #41 of the New York Mets pitches during circa mid 1970’s Major League Baseball game. Seaver played for the Mets from 1967-77,83. (Photo by Focus on Sport/Getty Images)

I am quite confused as to why they put the home logo on the away jersey. This was a very experimental time for the Mets uniforms. 51

1976

Not sure what the difference is between the two uniforms here, but it seems that there is a bit more orange on the Mets logo. That could also be lighting. I like it a bit more. 55

1978

Still not a big fan of pull-overs. 50

1982-1986

BOSTON – OCTOBER 22: Pitcher Ron Darling #12 of the New York Mets makes a pitch during Game Four of the World Series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on October 22, 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts. The Mets defeated the Red Sox 6-2. (Photo by Focus on Sport via Getty Images)

I am more okay with the Mets home logo on this jersey because it is more obvious that it is the away jersey. 70

1987

LOS ANGELES – 1987: Outfielder Darryl Strawberry of the New York Mets follows through after hitting a pitch during a game in 1987 against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Diamond Images/Getty Images)

I am a big fan of the script letters. However, it reminds me too much of the Yankees to get a very high score. 81

1988-1990

1990: Dwight Gooden of the New York Mets pitches during a game in the 1990 season. ( Photo by: Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

Seems like the Mets were basing their uniforms off the Yankees in this time period. 63

1991-1992

1993-1994

As I mentioned before, I am a major fan of the script, and this is a lot more unique as opposed to the previous. 93

2012

KANSAS CITY, MO – JULY 10: National League All-Star R.A. Dickey #43 of the New York Mets pitches in the sixth inning during the 83rd MLB All-Star Game at Kauffman Stadium on July 10, 2012 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

Only difference between this uniform and the current one, is the 50th anniversary patch. 73

Alternate Uniforms

1999-2008 Black

ATLANTA – AUGUST 28: Starting pitcher Al Leiter #22 of the New York Mets pitches against the Atlanta Braves on August 28, 2003 at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia. The Mets defeated the Braves 3-1. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)

Major fan of the black jerseys. I know this is a hot subject too in Mets fandom today, so I know some readers may disagree. 90

2009-2012 Black

NEW YORK – JULY 31: Carlos Beltran #15 of the New York Mets hits a game winning walk off sacrifice fly against the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 31, 2010 at Citi Field in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. I like both black jerseys equally the same. 90

1982-1984 Blue

Coolest pullover so far. 77

2003-2004 Orange

Awesome concept, but it really needs a better hat. If it had an orange cap, it would be one of my favorites. Because of the hat, I have to give it a 86

1997 White

Really liked this uniform. Wish we saw more of it. 94

2014 Camo

NEW YORK, NY – JULY 07: Ruben Tejada #11 of the New York Mets celebrates his 11th inning game-winning base hit against the Atlanta Braves as teammate Juan Lagares #12 of the New York Mets scores the run at Citi Field on July 7, 2014 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

One of my all-time favorite uniforms. Camouflage really made the orange and blue pop. 96

Memorial Day

2013

NEW YORK, NY – MAY 27: David Wright #5 and Ike Davis #29 of the New York Mets celebrate the win over the New York Yankees on May 27, 2013 at Citi Field in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. Both the New York Mets and the New York Yankees are wearing special uniforms to commemorate Memorial Day.The New York Mets defeated the New York Yankees 2-1. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)

Definitely a very subtle uniform. Loved the camo mixed in, but not as much as the previous one. 75

2014

NEW YORK, NY – MAY 26: Matt den Dekker #6 of the New York Mets looks on against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Citi Field on May 26, 2014 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. The Pirates defeated the Mets 5-3. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

Very subtle changes to the uniform as opposed to 2013, but I am a big fan of this uniform without the pinstripes. 82

2015

25 MAY 2015: New York Mets starting pitcher Bartolo Colon (40) during the game between the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies on Memorial Day 2015, the game was played at Citi Field in Flushing NY. The New York Mets defeat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3. (Photo by Rich Graessle/Icon Sportswire/Corbis/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)

Combined the best of both worlds from the last two seasons, I believe this was the best of the three years. 87

2016

30 MAY 2016: New York Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey (33) pitches during the game between the New York Mets and the Chicago White Sox played at Citi Field in Flushing,NY. (Photo by Rich Graessle/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)

Different color on the camo in 2016, but I wasn’t as much of a fan. 66

2017

FLUSHING, NY – MAY 29: New York Mets Pitcher Robert Gsellman (65) on the mound during a regular season MLB game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the New York Mets on May 29, 2017, at Citi Field in Flushing, NY. (Photo by David Hahn/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)

Very subtle with the green. 73

2018

ATLANTA, GA. – MAY 28: Seth Lugo #67 of the New York Mets throws a pitch in the ninth inning against the Atlanta Braves at SunTrust Field on May 28, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images)

Same uniform as 2017, but the hat colors are flipped. 71

4th of July

2013

NEW YORK, NY – JULY 04: Josh Edgin #66 of the New York Mets in action against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field on July 4, 2013 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. The Diamondbacks defeated the Mets 5-4 after 15 innings. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

Love the incorporation of the white hat. 94

2014

The uniform is the alternate uniform, but I love the hat. The hat itself doesn’t match with the jersey. If it was a “hat rating,” it would be a high score. Unfortunately, I have to give it a 45.

2015

LOS ANGELES, CA – JULY 04: Matt Harvey #33 of the New York Mets reacts as he leaves the field at the end of the second inning trailing 1-0 to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on July 4, 2015 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)

One of my favorite hats of all time, and I loved the design they put into the logos. Simple, but really cool. 93

2016

NEW YORK, NY – JULY 04: Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera #13 of the New York Mets leaps over Derek Dietrich #32 of the Miami Marlins after throwing over to first base to get Chris Johnson #12 for a game ending double play as second baseman Neil Walker #20 looks on at Citi Field on July 4, 2016 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. The Mets defeated the Marlins 8-6. (Photo by Rich Schultz/Getty Images)

In my opinion, 4th of July has some of the best hats in Mets history. This jersey was another one I wish we saw more of. 95

2017

WASHINGTON, DC – JULY 04: Seth Lugo #67 of the New York Mets pitches during a baseball game against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park on July 4, 2017 in Washington, DC. The Nationals won 11-4. (Photo by Mitchell Layton/Getty Images)

Not only did Seth Lugo have incredible socks, but the uniform overall fit nicely. 87

2018

TORONTO, ON – JULY 4: Dominic Smith #22 of the New York Mets warms up before the start of MLB game action against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on July 4, 2018 in Toronto, Canada. (Photo by Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images)

Very similar to last year, but the hat is different. 89

Mother’s Day

2016

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – MAY 8: Jeurys Familia #27 of the New York Mets plays during a baseball game against the San Diego Padres at PETCO Park on May 8, 2016 in San Diego, California. (Photo by Denis Poroy/Getty Images)

I loved when they introduced these Mother’s Day uniforms, but I wish the hats had more pink. 80

2017

MILWAUKEE, WI – MAY 13: Robert Gsellman #65 of the New York Mets throws a pitch during the first inning of a game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on May 13, 2017 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Photo by Stacy Revere/Getty Images)

More pink. Nice. 81

2018

PHILADELPHIA, PA – MAY 13: Paul Sewald #51 of the New York Mets in action against the Philadelphia Phillies in a game at Citizens Bank Park on May 13, 2018 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Rich Schultz/Getty Images)

Definitely a step down from the past few years. I was hoping for more pink, not less. 38

Father’s Day

2016

NEW YORK, NY – JUNE 19: Antonio Bastardo #59 of the New York Mets in action against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field on June 19, 2016 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. The Braves defeated the Mets 6-0. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

The baby blue on this uniform actually fits very nicely with the Mets colors. 83

2017

NEW YORK, NY – JUNE 17: Seth Lugo #67 of the New York Mets pitches in the first inning against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field on June 17, 2017 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

I think what Father’s Day has taught us is that the Mets should have a baby blue uniform full time. 90

2018

PHOENIX, AZ – JUNE 17: Robert Gsellman #65 of the New York Mets delivers a pitch against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on June 17, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. (Photo by Norm Hall/Getty Images)

Very underwhelmed with 2018’s uniforms. At least the hat matches the shirt somewhat. 52

2019

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – JUNE 16: Robinson Cano #24 of the New York Mets in action against the St. Louis Cardinals at Citi Field on JNew York Mets une 16, 2019 in New York City. The Cardinals defeated the Mets 4-3. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

I miss the full-uniform transitions. Although it probably was more about money, I think they looked nicer. I do like the tie-dye on the hat. 60

Los Mets

2007-2008

FLUSHING, NY – AUGUST 2007: David Wright #5 of the New York Mets rounding the bases during a MLB game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Shea Stadium on August 24, 2007 in Flushing, New York. (Photo by Dana Kaplan/Sports Imagery/Getty Images)

I prefer this uniform because of the pinstripes. 74

2011

Debby Wong/US Presswire

By far the best Los Mets uniform so far. Very simple addition to the alternate uniform. A clear effort to mix the “Los” with the logo, instead of years past where they put it above the Mets logo. 88

2012

JR Francis/ Sportslogos.net

This uniform was unique because it tied the Mets alternate jerseys with the Los Mets brand. 85

2013-2014

SportsLogos.net

The final two years of the Los Mets uniform was a complete turn from most Mets alternate uniforms. The Mets very rarely go with orange uniforms, so this is a very cool way to finish this stint of uniforms. 94

Miscellaneous

Mercury Mets (1999)

Barstool Sports

A lot of people were very curious about this uniform. The Mercury Mets was a uniform worn as a part of the Turn Ahead the Clock Night. This was supposed to represent the future of the world, and the Mets. Overall, comparing the Mets uniforms to the other teams that took part in this day, The Mets could have executed a lot better. 22

New York Cubans (2001,2004-2006, 2010)

Pintrest

The New York Cubans was a Negro League team, and was the team the Mets chose to represent when Negro League days took place. 77

New York Giants (2009)

NEW YORK – AUGUST 16: Anderson Hernandez #11 of the New York Mets throws against the San Francisco Giants on August 16, 2009 at Citi Field in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

A very simple throwback to the iconic New York team. 79

Batting Practice Jersey (August 29, 2011)

NEW YORK, NY – AUGUST 29: Jose Reyes #7 of the New York Mets warms up prior to the game against the Florida Marlins at Citi Field on August 29, 2011 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. (Photo by Christopher Pasatieri/Getty Images)

This uniform only made one appearance in a game. Because of a doubleheader, the Mets needed to suit up with a uniform they weren’t planning on using. I am a massive fan of this one. 96

Royal Giants 2014-2016

ATLANTA, GA – JUNE 25: Curtis Granderson #3 and Asdrubal Cabrera #13 of the New York Mets react after their 1-0 win in the 11th inning against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field on June 25, 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

The Royal Giants uniform was loved by many, and hated by many. However, I think it captured the Mets colors and the Mets vibe while changing the name, logo, and uniform of the classical Mets. If the socks were orange, this may be a 98 or 99. 95

Players Weekend 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – AUGUST 25: AJ Ramos #44 of the New York Mets throws a pitch to a Washington Nationals batter in the ninth inning at Nationals Park on August 25, 2017 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Patrick McDermott/Getty Images)

Albeit a pullover, the first ever players weekend featured one of the most “Mets” uniforms we have ever seen. Mixing the blue and orange throughout the uniform really made it pop. 94

Players Weekend 2018

NEW YORK, NY – AUGUST 26: Noah Syndergaard #34 of the New York Mets in action against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field on August 26, 2018 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. Players are wearing special jerseys with their nicknames on them during Players’ Weekend. The Nationals defeated the Mets 15-0. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

Only difference between 2017 and 2018 was the bill of the cap. 91

Players Weekend 2019

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – AUGUST 23: Pete Alonso #20 of the New York Mets in action against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field on August 23, 2019 in New York City. Teams are wearing special color schemed uniforms with players choosing nicknames to display for Players Weekend. The Braves defeated the Mets 2-1 in fourteen innings. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

This uniform was a great concept. It’s too bad the Mets did not wear the black uniforms, because I personally thought those were cooler. Either way, there was too much white going on here. Not to mention the pitchers had to wear black hats. 70

Best Mets Uniform Ever (My Opinion)

2014 Camo AND 2011 Batting Practice Jersey

Of course, both these two scored a 96. Therefore, they are crowned the best Mets uniform ever (to me)!

Boy, that was a marathon wasn’t it? If you read through all of that I commend you mightily. I hope you all enjoyed the journey along Mets uniform-land! I know there may have been some uniforms that I did not catch, but I did my best to get all of those I could find a record of. Crazy to see the development of Mets uniforms throughout their history.

  1. You can’t classify 62-78 home uniforms as the same cause there is a big difference. In 1969, Mets wore a uniform where the pin stripes were much lighter and no names on back. That would be my personal favorite. Also like the Royal Giants blue uniform
