The MLB and MLBPA have agreed upon safety and health protocols to get the thru the season with the COVID-19 Pandemic. The agreement features 7 inning doubleheader and the man on second extra inning rule, to keep the games shorter.
What wasn’t agreed upon was the universal DH. It could still be agreed upon, but with pitchers and catcher just 9 days away, the expectation is that the NL will not have a DH.
Although the Mets have some good hitting pitchers, this doesn’t work out in their favor. The Mets won’t be able to play a true center fielder and will likely have Smith and Nimmo their bats in the lineup. This way, the Mets have a pretty bad defense, which should improve with the DH.
I still hope somehow the DH will arrive, but without the Mets won’t sign JBJ and will have Almora as their late inning defensive replacement, with Nimmo moving to LF if needed.
