Mets Maintain Interest in Odorizzi as Fallback Option for Bauer

According to Jim Morosi, the Mets are one of the teams showing interest in Jake Odorizzi. This isn’t news, however with the addition of Carrasco this seemed less likely. After the Mets decided to trade Matz, getting a starter is back in their plans.

Bauer is the Mets main target right now and recent reports have shown that. Bauer and the Mets could be heading towards a deal, however the Mets need a back up plan. In comes Jake Odorizzi, who the Mets have liked and have been linked to from the start of the off-season.

Odorizzi is coming off a lost season due to injuries but was a stellar arm in years past. Prior to the 2020 season, Odorizzi pitched to a 3.88 ERA from 2013-2019. In 2019 he had his best year pitching to a 3.51 ERA/1.20 WHIP and 10.1 strikeouts per nine. In that season he developed a great relationship with current Mets pitching coach Jeremy Hefner.

The 30 year old reportedly wants a 3 or 4 year deal. He is expected to get around 13 mil AAV for his services.
