According to Bob Nightengale the Mets have formally made an offer to Trevor Bauer. The offer would mean Bauer will have the highest AAV of any player in the league. Highest AAV right now is Mike Trout. The Mets have “logically” emerged as the clear front runner to get the 2020 NL CY Young award winner.
Bauer is coming off a terrific season were he pitched to a 1.73 ERA over 11 starts. His K/9 and WHIP were off the charts earning him the NL CY Young award. Yes Bauer career numbers aren’t eye popping, but over the last three seasons he has been very good with a 3.18 ERA.
His main plus is his ability to get crazy spin rates on his pitches. Spin rates, makes your succes more likely to be substantial and he is the best at getting those high RPM rating.

Yes paying Bauer the money is a lot and obviously it’s an overpayment. However he is the main starting pitching on the market and would put the Mets rotation at the top of the league. deGrom, Bauer, Carrasco, Stroman and Peterson/Noah is a very formidable rotation. This team is going to be sick with that rotation. And as we have seen in the past, the Mets win with pitching.
My educated guess is that the offer would be 2/75 or even an one year deal.
