MetsJunkies Predictions: James McCann

In this segment, the main trio, also known from our Podcast, will predict the numbers of our beloved Mets player. We will start with our newly acquired catcher: James McCann

Corne Hogeveen:

I have high hopes for our new catcher. He seemed to have figured out something with his offensive game. His hard hit rate has improved mighty over the last two years, which increased his expected slash lines. McCann will be an every day catcher, which could decline some of his numbers but believe projections I have seen are undervalued.

.269/.345/.470 with 18 homeruns and 65 RBI’s

McCann comes to the Mets not as an offense juggernaut, but more of a defensive upgrade for the Mets behind the plate. While the last two seasons he did show improvements, the 7 year veteran has a career slash line of .249/.300/.394. I’m not too optimistic on his 2021 projections as other Mets fans may be.

.259/.310/.410 with 15 HR and 57 RBI’s.

Most importantly, McCann will prove himself yet again as a catcher that prides himself on his defensive capabilities. We should expect him to be within the top three defensive catchers in the National League.

He will also bring confidence to the pitchers he catches, as he’s a veteran and a top notch receiver in pertains to his framing and game calling.

Offensively, I believe McCann will own a .244/.318/.420 slash with 15 HR’s to go alongside 61 RBI’s in roughly 450 at-bats.
