For all my fellow European Mets fans. The Mets have signed an European pitcher. Cam Opp has signed with the Mets on a MILB deal, according to Rob Piersal. Opp is born in the capital city of London in Great Britain. He has pitched for the British national team.
Opp has pitched for West Point Army for 4 years. The lefty had 84 appearances during his West Point Army career. He combined to throw 181.2 innings were he struck out almost one per inning. Over those innings he pitched to a 4.11 ERA.
In his last season (2019) he pitched to a 3.65 ERA in 44.1 innings, while striking out 72. He increased his strikeout per nine, which is the most likely reason the Mets gave him a contract.
Who knows, maybe the Mets found something. Either way, this is a fun story and a pitcher to follow in the organization. Especially for a European fan.
