The Mets are looking to add more and more depth and according to MMO’s Michael Mayer, they have at least shown interest outside the US. The Mets have shown interest in RHP Spencer Patton. Patton has been in the Japanese league for four years now and has found some succes.
Over those four seasons, Patton has pitched to a 3.68 ERA over 205.2 innings. His strikeout rate was good at 10.6 per nine. He was terrific in 2017 and 2018 but struggled some the last two seasons with an ERA just below 5 in both seasons. Still his strikeout rate was good at 11.2 in 2019 and 11.0 in 2020. Walks are his main issue over the last two years walking 5.1 per nine in 2019 and 4.6 in 2020.

What teams did like about Patton is his spin rates. Although it looks like his control went south, might be something to work with, with a good pitching coach and data driven organization. Depth is never bad as well.
Patton has some experience in the majors as he briefly pitched for the Rangers (2014-2015) and Cubs (2016). In a small samplesize he pitched to a 6.26 ERA in 54.2 innings.
If and this is still a big if, the Mets sign him. He would be stocked in AAA as depth. See what you have and how he can make the most out of his spin rate. Nothing to lose, maybe something to gain.
