Mets Trade Target: Ramon Laureano

This would be a dream scenario, in my opinion. Ramon Laureano of the Oakland Athletics is no slouch when it comes to holding down ground in centerfield. The right handed outfielder also has a decent stick when he’s in the batters box.

He didn’t have a good 2020 season and this isn’t an uncommon thing during this shortened season. In 183 at-bats, Laureano hit .213/.338/.366/.704 with eight doubles, one triple, as well as six home runs and 25 RBI’s. He also stole two bases in three attempts, so the ability to swipe bags is there.

In his 2018 rookie season, Laureano appeared in 48 games and accumulated 156 at-bats, hitting .288/.358/.474/.832 with 12 doubles, one triple, alongside five home runs and 19 RBI’s. He also stole seven bases in eight attempts.

He proved in 2019 during his sophomore season that it was no fluke. He slashed at .288/.340/.521/.860 with 29 doubles, 24 home runs and 67 runs batter in. He had no issues with flashing his speed here and there with 13 swipes in 15 attempts.

Laureano won’t be a Free Agent till 2025, so the price to acquire the centerfielder will be steep. This will cost the Mets at least one premier, blue chip prospect as well as a few mid level guys. It also may take a Brandon Nimmo, J.D. Davis, or even Jeff McNeil to top the transaction off.

According to the research of Corné Hogeveen and BaseballTradeValues.com, a trade for the talented centerfielder would cost Brandon Nimmo, Ronny Mauricio, as well as Brett Baty…Yikes!!!

I don’t want to part with Nimmo, but to acquire Laureano, I’d pull that trigger. I’d also hate to part with McNeil, however with him, I’d hold onto him in hopes that he could slot in as our second baseman one day.
