Betances picks up his option

In another unsurprising turn of events, Dellin Betances has excersided his 6 million dollar player option.

Betances wasn’t good when on the field in his first season on the other side of NY. He pitched to a 7.71 ERA/4.91FIP just 11.2 innings. The tall righty had a shockingly high WHIP of 2.06 as he walked more than one per inning. His strikeout numbers were also down and his velo, wasn’t up their like we used to see from Betances.

Clearly, Betances wasn’t back to his old form after an injury riddled 2019. Before his 2019 season, he was one of the most dominant relievers in the game.

When the Mets signed Betances, I saw it as a great risk to take. Let’s hope it pays off in 2021 and have him be his dominant self again.
