MLB Trade Rumors projections of Arbitration and Free agent signings is something to keep an eye on every off-season. They are clearly the best site projection wise. Today they revealed the Arbitration salary projections. Here are the Mets:
- Michael Conforto: $13.6M
- Noah Syndergaard: $9.7M
- Edwin Diaz: $6.5M
- Steven Matz: $5.3M
- Brandon Nimmo: $5.2M
- Dominic Smith: $3.6M
- Seth Lugo: $3.1M
- JD Davis: $2.9M
- Amed Rosario: $2.6M
- Miguel Castro: $1.8M
- Guillermo Heredia: $1.5M
- Robert Gsellman: $1.4M
Looking at these projections, there are some names that become non tender candidates. Matz is the most obviously after his very bad 2020. Another name is Robert Gsellman who hasn’t been good for years now. Although Gsellman doesn’t get a lot of money, it’s still worth considering.
Obviously Herredia is another guy that could be non tendered, besides him doing a solid job in limited time.
Droppin’ Gems:
I see a lot of fans on Twitter and Facebook saying that the Mets can bring Matz back after a non-tender and I just don’t know if that’s the case. Yes, Matz is a hometown kid from Long Island but the pitching market is thin at the moment.
You can never really tell who’s on the trading block, however as far as free agents, if Matz were non-tendered, he wouldn’t exactly be the worst name on that list.
The lefty can also take a look at what some of his former teammates have done since leaving the organization, especially players like Zack Wheeler and Travis d’Arnaud. Two players that seem to be flourishing once getting away from Flushing, Queens.
On Castro, while he didn’t exactly shine when he came to the Mets from the Baltimore Orioles, there’s a lot of juice behind that fastball and I’d like to see if the coaching staff can get the right-hander to turn a corner.
