On this date in 2019, New York Mets ace pitcher and Cy Young award winner Jacob deGrom hit his 3rd career home run, which was also his second of that 2019 campaign. He also struck out 13 batters that evening against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field.
deGrom would end up going seven innings while only allowing four hits as well as striking out 13 Braves.
According to Elias, deGrom is the only pitcher in the modern era (since 1900) to strike out at least 13 batters and hit a home run twice in a season (April 3, 2019).
