Sportico has reported that Major League Baseball has pre-approved seven groups as qualified bidders for the New York Mets franchise.
Allen & Co. is handling the process for the Wilpons and the Mets and all qualified bidders must sign a non-disclosure agreement.
Alex Rodriguez, Jennifer Lopez plan to team up with JPMorgan Chase & Co. as well as potentially partnering up with the owner of the Florida Panthers, Vinny Viola. The power couple could also bring Mike Repole into the mix, the co-founder of Vitaminwater.
Other potential bidders include Josh Harris and David Blitzer, owners of the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Devils. Brothers David and Simon Ruben are said to be interested in a purchase, as well.
The New York Mets are currently the sixth most valuable team at $2.4B within Major League Baseball, just edging out the St. Louis Cardinals.
