While it’s being reported that Carlos Beltrán is stepping down, it’s obvious that this is something the former Mets outfielder wouldn’t do if the team and/or Major League Baseball gave him the full-court press and final ultimatum.
The rumor comes from an odd source, however one that has proven to be useful as well as accurate recently in the past. Carlos Beltrán’s niece posted via Twitter a few days before the to-be hiring of Beltrán and is now tweeting that her uncle will be stepping down as New York Mets manager.
Beltrán was originally hired to take over the New York Mets’ managerial position in early November, however will never get to do so due to his involvement with the Houston Astros’ cheating scandal. Managers A.J. Hinch and Alex Cora have already lost their jobs.
Beltran has spent parts of seven seasons with the Mets before being traded to the San Francisco Giants for then Single-A pitching prospect Zack Wheeler.
Beltran hit .280/.369/.500/.869 with 208 doubles, 17 triples, 149 home runs with 559 RBI’s and 100 stolen bases to top it off. Beltran’s defense has definitely not gone unrecognized as he’s also won 3 Gold Gloves in his tenure in Flushing, Queens.
