Right handed pitcher Zack Wheeler is expected to decline the QO from the New York Mets and explore potential offers from teams like the San Diego Padres, Chicago White Sox, and Los Angeles Angels. Teams like the Houston Astros, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Oakland Athletics were said to be interested in Wheeler during the 2019 trade deadline.
There is another team said to be in the mix and that’s the New York Mets and earlier on during the 2019 season, Wheeler made it clear that he has no intentions on giving the Mets a “hometown discount”.
After putting up a season in which he was 11-8 with a 3.96 ERA while striking out 195 batters in 195.1 innings pitched over the span of 31 starts, he’s likely to decline the offer in order to test the market and get the best deal possible.
