With Jacob deGrom and Rajai Davis helping the New York Mets take the win last night, Zack Wheeler now has the opportunity to take the series, one with obvious importance and heavy playoff implications. While the Dodgers sit on top of the N.L. West, the Mets are just three games back from the second Wild Card seed with only the Milwaukee Brewers sitting in front of them.

The Mets will have Zack Wheeler on the mound tonight, Wheeler has an ERA of 1.50 over his last three starts however, opponents have been hitting an even .300 off of the Georgia native during that stretch. On the 2019 campaign, Wheeler owns a 11-7 record with a 4.21 ERA, a 1.31 ERA while striking out 170 batters in 173.1 innings.

The Mets offense will be squaring off against Walker Buehler and the young right hander has been nothing short of spectacular for the Dodgers so far this season. Buehler owns a 13-3 record while pitching to a 3.14 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, and has struck out 201 batters in 166.1 innings pitched.

Since the return on Brandon Nimmo and Robinson Canó, Jeff McNeil has been doing a lot of bouncing around the diamond as he’s been playing both corner outfield positions as well as seeing time in the infield at second and third. I’m personally wondering if this is causing McNeil to lose focus at the dish because, well, that’s what the numbers have been indicating.

In his last seven games, Jeff McNeil has been hitting .250/.323/.536 with two of his seven hits landing for home runs. While the power is surging, the slap and spray McNeil has seemed to take a back seat since the All-Star break. However overall, McNeil is displaying that he can be one of the top dogs in the park as he’s batting .320/.388/.527/.914 with 35 doubles, one triple, 20 home runs and 68 RBI’s.

Tonight’s game will be held at Citi Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM EST and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
