After a disappointing series loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, the New York Mets will now host the Arizona Diamondbacks in another important series with extreme play-off implications. While the Mets are 4 games back from the second Wild Card spot, the Diamondbacks are only 1.5 out while going 8-2 in their last 10 games.

The New York Mets will have the right man on the mound with their Ace and reigning National League Cy Young Jacob deGrom. Since the All-Star break, the right hander has posted a 1.91 ERA despite giving up eight runs in his last two starts. Overall, deGrom owns a 8-8 record with a 2.76 ERA, 1.05 WHIP while striking out 220 batters in 176.0 innings.

The Diamondbacks will have Merrill Kelly on the hill, a 30 year old right handed rookie who’s coming off one of his best outings of his short lived MLB career. Kelly went seven shutout innings while allowing just three hits and two walks against the San Diego Padres. The rookie owns a 10-13 record with a 4.69 ERA, a WHIP of 1.35 while striking out 132 batters in 157.1 innings pitched.

Tonight’s series opener will be held at Citi Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 PM EST and will be televised on SNY.
