My apologies for originally posting it as a Friday night game. I tend to get confused after off days because they’re always on Monday’s and Thursday’s, so I just assumed it was Friday.
The New York Mets and Chicago Cubs start a huge series with playoff implications tonight at Citi Field. While the Mets were just recently swept by the Atlanta Braves, the Cubs were simultaneously being swept by the Washington Nationals.
The Chicago Cubs will have right hander Yu Darvish on the hill, the Japanese born pitcher is the first pitcher in Major League Baseball history to have five straight outings with at least eight strikeouts and zero walks. Overall, Darvish is 4-6 with a 4.43 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, while striking out 176 batters in 144.1 innings, during this 2019 campaign.
While Michael Conforto hasn’t been Christian Yelich, he’s been more than valuable to the New York Mets offense. Against right handed pitching, Conforto is hitting .262/.392/.534/.926 with 16 doubles and 21 home runs. Conforto has even hit a home run off of Darvish earlier on in the season, going 1-2 along with a base on balls.
Marcus Stroman will take the bump after suffering from left hamstring tightness which limited the Long Island native to just four innings his last time out. Since being traded to the Mets, Stroman has posted a 4.58 ERA in four starts for the Orange & Blue.
However overall, Stroman owns a 7-11 record to go alongside a 3.18 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, as well as striking out 117 batters in 144.1 innings pitched this season.
The game is slated for a 7:10 PM EST start and will be televised on SNY, as well as nationally on MLB Network.
