After a powerful but close contest last night, the New York Mets will take on the Royals in Kansas City for a three-game set.
For the first time in Syndergaard’s career, the Texas born righty have thrown five straight seven-inning starts, he’ll look to make it six straight outings against a struggling Royals squad.
Overall, Syndergaard is 8-5 while pitching to a 3.89 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and striking out 145 batters in 148 innings pitched. In his last seven starts, “Thor” is 3-1 with a 2.47 ERA while striking out 47 in 47.1 innings. While Syndergaard had one of his more famous performances against the Royals in the 2015 World Series, he hasn’t squared off against Kansas City since the 2016 season.
Kansas City Royals starter and yes, another lefty, Mike Montgomery will take the hill as he’s just coming off of a career performance on Saturday as he struck out 12 Detroit Tigers in a 7-0 victory.
Montgomery is 2-5 with an ERA of 5.19, a 1.59 WHIP and has struck out 42 batters in 50.1 innings pitched. Although the lefty is coming off of a career game, Montgomery is sporting an ERA of 9.53 over his last seven games pitched.
Look for the right handers in the Mets lineup to fully take advantage of Montgomery’s season long struggles.
