Tuesday Night Matchup: Mets vs Braves

After winning another series, this time against the Wild Card leading Washington Nationals, the New York Mets will head down to Atlanta to take on the N.L. East leading Braves after having Monday off. The Mets are currently eight games back however they’ve won the 15 out of their last 17 games played.

Two weeks ago, Zack Wheeler was a sure shot trade chip to help the Mets build from beyond 2020, however it looks like General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen decided to bet on this season and kept the potential free agent. Reports have even circulated that the Mets may even look to extend the once top pitching prospect.

Wheeler has looked on point in his last seven starts as he sports a 4-1 win/loss record with an impressive 2.62 ERA while striking out 46 in his last 44.2 innings. Overall, the Georgia native is 9-6 with a 4.20 ERA, a 1.37 WHIP while striking out 149 batters in 139.1 innings pitched.

Atlanta Braves starter Max Fried goes into Tuesday’s contest with four straight wins putting together a 3.32 ERA through that span. The lefty is 13-4 with a 4.11 ERA, a 1.37 WHIP alongside 122 strikeouts in 120.1 innings pitched in 24 starts.
