The New York Mets will travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates for a three-game set after sweeping them back at Citi Field just recently. The Mets have won seven straight games going into the contest against the Bucs on Friday night and Steven Matz will look to keep the momentum and streak alive.
Matz is currently 6-6 with an ERA of 4.32, a 1.38 WHIP and has struck out 93 batters in exactly 100.0 innings pitched. Since the All-Star break however, Matz owns a 1-0 record with a 1.89 ERA in three starts, one of which in where he picked up his first ever complete game shutout.
Pirates pitcher Trevor Williams definitely has a task at hand. While the right hander seems to be righting his wrongs of the season, he’s going to have to go against a New York Mets squad that’s bursting with confidence.
Williams is 3-4 and owns a 4.77 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP and has struck out 75 batters in 88.2 innings pitched. While he actually pitched a pretty decent game at Citi Field, earlier, he’s still 1-3 with a 6.57 ERA in his last seven starts.
So while the Mets look to make it eight wins a row, the Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to get things together as the team is only 1-9 out of their last ten contests.
