Unfortunately without gaining the traction the Mets would have liked to have going into the finale game of the season series, the team still has the chance to win this series and call it a split on the year.
The San Diego Padres will send lefty Eric Lauer to the mound as the Friars try to take the season series at Citi Field in Flushing, Queens. Lauer is 5-7 with a 4.31 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP while striking out 79 batters in 96 innings pitched. He’s 1-3 in his last seven games with a 4.10 ERA, giving up 41 hits over his last 37.1 innings.
The Mets send a Jacob deGrom to the bump that is back to looking like the Jacob deGrom of 2018. The reigning N.L. Cy Young Award winner has just two wins in his last 11 starts while putting up a 2.31 ERA over that stretch.
The shortstop turned pitcher is currently 5-7 with a 3.02 ERA, a 1.11 ERA and has struck out 154 batters in 122 overall innings.
