The Mets will have Jason Vargas start off the second half in an outing that very well maybe a showcase for the deadline. Vargas is 3-4 and is pitching to a 3.77 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, with 63 strikeouts in 73.2 innings pitched.
However since April 19th, Vargas owns a 2.76 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 65.1 innings and 12 starts.
The Miami Marlins will have a southpaw of their own on the hill in Caleb Smith, who went 5 innings against the Mets on April 5th in a no-decision. Smith owns a 4-4 record with a 3.50 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 88 strikeouts in 72 innings.
However over his last 7 outings, Smith has a 5.00 ERA over 36 innings pitched.
