After taking the first of two games from the Yankees, the Mets will send veteran left handed pitcher Jason Vargas to the mound and try and complete the sweep of the team’s cross town rivals.
Unbelievably, Vargas has pitched in 11 straight outings in which he allowed three earned runs or fewer and has posted a 2.55 ERA during that run. Vargas squared off against the Yankees earlier on in the year and picked up his first career victory over the Bronx Bombers.
Currently, Vargas is 3-3 with a 3.66 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP with 57 strikeouts in 66.1 innings pitched. He’s 2-1 in his last seven games with a 2.36 ERA over the stretch of 42.0 innings.
The Yankees has a successful Domingo German hitting the hill against the Mets. German is 9-2 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 77 strikeouts in 70 innings pitched this season. This will be his first start since June 7th due to being sidelined with a “Hip Flexor Strain”, so the Mets need to capitalize off of the rust.
