While many writers and fans have criticized the trade made with the Tampa Rays for the right handed reliever, Font has filled a vital role in the bullpen, particularly with eating innings.
However, today Wilmer Font came into relieve the Injured Jason Vargas and pitched three hitless innings while only surrendering one walk. He struck out three batters and now has a 4.98 ERA in 34.1 innings pitched.
For the Mets to turn it around and be successful, the team needs Wilmer Font to step it up and fill in for Seth Lugo when he’s being overworked. Robert Gsellman needs to show shades of his former self, as well. Otherwise, the bullpen could be doomed for the entirety of the 2019 campaign.
