Earlier today, the Los Angeles Angeles had designated relief pitcher and former closer Cody Allen for assignment. Now by all means, Allen has been having a terrible go around in the A.L. West with the Angels so it’s not like the Mets will be picking up K-Rod.

However, with the way Cody Allen’s career has unfolded, it may be like picking up another Addison Reed. Allen has logged in 122 saves with a 2.67 career ERA in 386 appearances dating back from 2012-2017.

The righty will likely go unclaimed and opt out of his contract due to the $8.5M he’s owed, in which the Mets can then reunite him with his former pitching coach and now manager of the Mets, Mickey Callaway.
