Does anyone remember Chris Jones? If you don’t, I couldn’t really blame you but that’s what’s fun for me when I get to do these #ThrowbackThursday segments, remembering some of the players that used to be on the Mets and digging into their stats. But as far as Jones, the outfielder had a pretty short stint in Flushing, Queens.

Born in Utica, New York, Chris Jones was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 3rd round of the 1988 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Liverpool High School, in Liverpool, New York.

After spending time with Cincinnati, Houston, and Colorado, the Mets signed Jones to a 2-year deal on December 7th, 1994.

In 1995, his first year with the Mets, he appeared in 79 games in which he accumulated 182 at-bats and hit .280/.327/.467/.794 with 6 doubles, 2 triples, 8 home runs alongside 33 runs scored and 31 RBI’s.

He accumulated 149 at-bats his next year in 1996, he hit 7 doubles, 4 home runs with 22 runs scored and 18 RBI’s to go with a .242/.307/.369/.676 slash line in 89 games.

Overall with the Mets, the New York native played in 168 games with 13 doubles, 2 triples, 12 home runs, 55 runs scored and 49 runs driven in. He owned a slash line of .263/.318/.423/.741 in 331 bats while wearing the Orange & Blue.

While his numbers don’t actually reflect it, he was pretty decent coming off of the bench and he was a damn good pinch hitter later in games in clutch situations.
