Besides an early hiccup as well as a short stint on the Injury List, Seth Lugo has been the anchor to the Mets bullpen. Sure, Edwin Diaz has been lights out as well, well, at least for the most part. Lugo has been the transition man between starter and closer and no one on the Mets staff has been doing better.
In his last 7 games, he’s pitched 8.1 innings, picking up one win while allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 11 and maintaining a 1.08 ERA and 0.84 WHIP.
In his last 15 games, Lugo’s pitched 20.2 innings while striking out 26, winning 3 games and keeping to a 1.31 ERA and 0.77 WHIP.
It’ll be interesting to see how often Callaway plans to use Lugo throughout the season, however in order for the Mets bullpen to stand a chance, they’ll need the likes of Robert Gsellman to step up on much needed days off for Lugo.
