Desmond Lindsay was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2015 June Amateur Draft, although the 53rd overall pick is currently on the 7-Day Injured List, he’s poised for big things. The Bradenton, Florida native is looked at as a potential 5-tool player, he just needs to stay on the field to be able to prove it.

His play during this 2019 season indicates that he’s probably been playing hurt during his 15 games with the St. Lucie Mets, he’s batting .196/ .305/ .294/ .599 in 51 at-bats. Far from anything you’d expect from a top prospect.

Former Mets senior advisor Paul DePodesta said this after drafting Lindsay, “We felt like this was a real opportunity for us with Desmond… Without the hamstring injury this spring, we don’t think there would be any way that he would have lasted to the 53rd pick in this Draft. There’s just too much talent there, and a combination of power and speed that’s just very difficult to find. So we felt like it was an opportunity for us, in a year when we didn’t have a first-round pick, to maybe reach up and get a first-round talent.”

“This is an athlete that probably has a plus-plus run tool for us,” said Tanous, who acted as the Mets scouting director. “He’s one of the faster kids in the Draft. Although he’s a fairly strong kid, this is a kid that can run.”

In the 2018 Arizona Fall League, the centerfielder hit 3 home runs in 31 plate appearances. While he hasn’t tapped into his power yet, scouts expect him to do so as well as hit for a decent average in the process.

Even though he’s had a history of leg issues dating back to his high school days, scouts expect the speedy 22 year old to get the green light on the base paths as he continues to mature. His speed plays well enough for him to be able to cover spacious amounts of ground in centerfield, where he’s expected to stay for several more years.

Lindsay has played a total of 242 games in the Minor Leagues and has a slash line of .238/ .343/ .376/ .710 with 38 doubles, 8 triples, 17 home runs, 98 RBI’s, 113 runs scored in 815 at-bats.

Scouts expect Lindsay’s ETA to the Majors to be some point during the 2020 season, potentially filling any voids the Mets have in centerfield, especially when it comes to a right handed bat.
