During the off-season, the Mets signed former first rounder of the 2012 June Amateur Draft (Pittsburgh Pirates), Barrett Barnes to a Minor League deal. The outfielder has been on fire since the start of the season.
Barnes, a Sugarland, Texas native has played in 19 games for the Rumble Ponies and is hitting a dangerous .339/ .462/ .532/ .994 while also stealing 3 bases. The righty has 6 doubles, 2 home runs, 11 walks, and 21 RBI’s in 62 at-bats at the Double-A level.
The 27 year old Barnes is at a stand-still with Syracuse having a loaded outfield and will likely have to wait for a Carlos Gomez opt-out (6/1) or an injury to impact the Syracuse Mets outfield.
