Takeaways from Tuesday’s game vs Padres

Robinson Canó picked up his 2,500th hit in the first inning with a double, he ended the evening going 4-5 while scoring a run, the second baseman is batting .262.

Jeff McNeil is batting .352, enough said.

Amed Rosario drove in an RBI in the first, his 19th of the season. He finished the evening going 2-5 and is at the .280 clip.

Pete Alonso hit his 11th home run of the year, a 449 ft 2-run shot to put the Mets up 7-5 in the 9th. He went 3-4 and is now batting .284.

Seth Lugo pitched 2 scoreless innings while striking out 2, lowering his ERA to 3.13. Lugo picked up the well deserved win and is now 2-0.

Edwin Diaz would get himself into trouble in the bottom half of the 9th inning but would eventually get Hunter Renfroe to ground out to Rosario for his 9th save of the year.

The Mets will send the newly acquired Wilmer Font to the mound after acquiring him from the Rays for cash or a player to be named later. Former reliever Matt Strahm (1-2, 3.03 ERA) will take the mound for the Padres for tomorrow’s 3:40 PM start in San Diego.
