Takeaways from Sunday’s game vs the Brewers

Vargas gave up 3 runs in his 4 innings pitched, he ran into some bad luck when Keon Broxton misplayed a line drive towards him in right field. He only gave up 3 hits and struck out 5 with an ERA of 5.92.

Keon Broxton hasn’t shown much offensively so far this season, however he crushed a double over Lorenzo Cain’s head in the top half of the 5th. He finished going 1-3 with a run scored.

Amed Rosario had a multi hit game, the shortstop has been struggling defensively but today went 3-4. He’s raised his batting average to .276.

Juan Lagares hit an opposite field home run in the 7th, his 2nd of the year. The home run would put the Mets within one. The centerfielder finished the afternoon going 1-3.

Tim Peterson pitched 2.1 scoreless innings while striking out 1 and lowering his ERA to 2.84.

Tylor Bashlor made his season debut and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings and struck out 2.

While Vargas didn’t go as long as many fans expected due to a hamstring pull, the bullpen was very efficient and kept the Mets in it till the end in this 3-2 loss to the Brewers.
